2009 Conference, Best Paper Awards.

The Academy of Finance, in an effort to recognize the superior research efforts of our members, offers the following Awards for the recognition of excellent research:

Academy of Finance Distinguished Paper Award

The best overall Academy of Finance paper receives the McGraw Hill-Irwin sponsored Distinguished Paper Award. This Award comes with a plaque from McGraw Hill-Irwin and a stipend provided by the Academy of Finance. The 2008 winner is "Testing the Market Efficiency for Different Market Capitalization Funds," Hossein Varamini, Elizabethtown College; and Svetlana Kalash, McKonly & Asbury, LLP.

MBAA Theme Paper Award

The MBAA has an award for the best overall theme paper. A committee of Academy of Finance members determines the best paper. The best paper wins the Academy of Finance MBAA theme track award. The academy’s best MBAA theme paper is sent to the MBAA to be considered for the overall best theme paper award.

Academy of Finance "Best in Track" Paper Awards

The Academy of Finance awards up to 8 different Best in Track Awards (see list below). Authors of the Best in Track papers will receive plaques recognizing their excellent research. Papers may be submitted in up to two different tracks but may not win in more than one. For example, a paper such as “An Analysis of the Expansion of the Russian Banking System,” might be submitted in both the Institutions track and the Global track but it could not be selected as the winner in both. Submission process:

  • Once accepted for the Academy’s Program, the author(s) may submit it for the Best in Track award.
  • Additional details forthcoming.

The Research Awards Committee will review the submissions and select the Best in Track winners. You must submit your paper as described above if you want it considered for Best in Track. The submission to the program is not considered submission for the Best in Track awards. The tracks are:

  • International,
  • Investments,
  • Corporate Finance,
  • Financial Markets,
  • Personal Finance,
  • Real Estate & Insurance,
  • Education in Finance,
  • Special Topics.
