Conference Dates and Location: Conference dates: Wednesday, March 24, 2010, through Friday, March 26, 2010. Conference is at Drake Hotel in Chicago.

Paper Topics: Papers in all areas of finance, insurance, and real estate will be considered and a double-blind review process will be used to select papers. This year the Academy will feature eight tracks: 1. Corporate Finance, 2. Financial Markets, 3. International Finance, 4. Investments, 5. Personal Financial Planning, 6. Real Estate and Insurance, 7. The Future of Education in Finance and 8. Special Topics. (Special Topics will include ethics and other finance related topics.) A paper from each track will be selected to receive a “Best in Track” award.

Submission Instructions: The proposal can be either an abstract or a complete paper. Complete papers, however, have a better chance of acceptance. Also, to improve the readability of the proposal be generous in your use of descriptive headings. The proposal should be typewritten (single spaced) and have a title page. The title page must contain the name(s) of the author(s), mailing address(es), phone number(s), and e-mail address(es). Refrain from using the author’s name(s) elsewhere in the proposal. Abstracts should be no less than two (2) pages. Completed papers can be over ten (10) pages, including tables and bibliography; however there is a “per page” fee for papers over ten pages in length if accepted for publication in the Journal of the Academy of Finance.

Other Participation Opportunities: For the program to be successful, session chairs and paper discussants will be needed. Authors presenting papers are expected to serve as session chairs and paper discussants. Authors will be assigned as discussants in the same track of their paper presentation. Conference attendees not presenting a paper may indicate their willingness to serve as session chair on the participation form.

Notification: You will be informed of the result of the review process by the end of November 2008. The submission of a paper indicates that it or a similar version has not been previously published, accepted for publication, or is under publication consideration elsewhere.

Journal Submission: Papers presented at the 2009 Academy of Finance annual meeting may also be submitted to the the Journal of the Academy of Finance, a special issue of Managerial Finance (tentative), or a special issue of the Journal of Contemporary Business Issues (tentative), where they will undergo the standard double-blind, peer review process.

Writing your paper:  Professor John Cochrane at the University of Chicago has written a paper entitled "Writing Tips for Ph.D. Students."  The sections are Organization, Writing, Tips for Empirical Work, Presentation, and Conclusion. Suggested reading for paper submission. Link.
