Academy of Finance 2009 Teaching Excellence Award

The Academy of Finance is proud to announce the 3rd Annual Teaching Excellence Award competition. This Award is designed to recognize excellence in teaching, to encourage teachers to share experiences about how they became great educators, and how they continue to improve their skills. There will be a cash prize for the winner, with the sponsor disclosed by Alex Faseruk, Chair of the “Teaching Excellence Award” committee.

Anyone interested in competing for the Award must submit the following items to Alex Faseruk by Monday, February 2, 2009, at afaseruk@mun.ca.

1. A 1-page statement of teaching philosophy

2. A curriculum vita, condensed to no more than 4 pages

3. Supporting evidence of teaching excellence, not to exceed 5 pages

A Teaching Committee will review the applications and select the finalists. These finalists will then make a presentation at a special teaching session at the Academy of Finance meeting, in Chicago, March 18-20, 2009. The Teaching Committee will evaluate the presentations along with the materials originally submitted and will select a winner. The Award winner will be announced at the Thursday luncheon and will receive a plaque from the Academy of Finance and a cash prize. The other finalists will also receive recognition for their teaching excellence from the Academy.

If you have any questions or if you need more information about the Award, please contact Charles Rayhorn, (crayhorn@nmu.edu), or 906-227-1839), 2009 Program Chair, Academy of Finance.
